Trekking

Overview

Known as the Mountains of the Moon, the Rwenzori Mountains are one of Africa’s most spectacular yet lesser-known trekking destinations. Located along the Uganda–DRC border, the range stretches over 120 kilometers and reaches its highest point at Margherita Peak, 5,109 meters above sea level. Unlike Mount Kilimanjaro, the Rwenzoris are rugged, glacial, and richly diverse, with landscapes that shift from dense rainforest to alpine meadows and dramatic glaciers.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to unique plant life, waterfalls, and wildlife. The trails lead you through bamboo zones, giant lobelia fields, and high-altitude bogs. Treks range from short multi-day hikes to the full summit circuit that can take up to 9 or 10 days. The mountain’s isolation means fewer crowds and a true off-the-beaten-path adventure for serious hikers and nature lovers.
